Linnie McLarty

Linnie's recentt body of work has evolved whilst exploring the symbolism of flowers. Investigating countless aspects of how flowers were and are perceived across the world, what kept coming back to her were the images of Shakespeare’s ‘poor drowned Ophelia’ floating on a carpet of flowers.

Linnie's explorations developed into a series of brooches which have an integral relationship to the fabric on which they sit. Rather than be worn in the traditional way, she wanted them to be reflective of the manner in which they covered Ophelia as she floated in the river. Experimenting with scale, she developed a new method of attaching brooches, one which temporarily alters the shape of the garment on which they are placed.

This fastening named ‘poppi’ derived from both it’s floral motif and from the ‘pop-on’ nature of attachment, enables the brooches to be worn on delicate fabrics without the use of pins.

Equally stunning when fastening scarves and pashminas, ‘poppi’ can also be used as an alternative to buttons.

These striking brooches are available in sterling silver, vermeil and also in enamel.
